A 51-year-old man faces several charges after he was caught with a loaded handgun and illegal drugs in front of a Westchester cafe, police said. The arrest resulted from an incident on Monday, April 8 around 4:20 a.m., when a suspect was seen allegedly displaying a gun at the Pit Stop gas station in New Rochelle at 819 Main St., according to New Rochelle Police Captain J. Less than a month since a case of measles showed up outside of New York City, the number of cases has more than doubled across the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Retired Police Sergeant Who Served For Decades In Westchester Dies
A police department in Westchester has announced the death of one of its former members who spent his life serving his community and country. Dutchess County resident Andrew Fischer, Sr., a retired Eastchester Police sergeant, died on Tuesday, April 9 at the age of 84, according to his obituary. Fischer, an Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War era, joined the department in 1964 and served until his retirement in 1987 after 23 years, according to Eastchester Police. Route 100 Reopens After Tree Falls In Greenburgh
This story has been updated. A part of a busy main route in Westchester has reopened to traffic after being briefly closed thanks to a downed tree. Hillside Avenue (Route 100) in Greenburgh at the intersection with Valimar Boulevard reopened at around 4 p.m. after being closed for less than two hours after a tree fell on the roadway, Greenburgh Police said on Friday, April 12. Thanks to quick-thinking Metro-North officials and first responders, a person who fell on electrified tracks at a Northern Westchester train station and his father, who leaped in to help him, were rescued from the perilous situation.
