A local woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash involving a police vehicle overnight on Long Island. It happened around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, March 23 in Smithtown. A Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct officer was in his police vehicle parked on Route 25A at Oakside Road when a 2020 Nissan Rogue struck the rear of his vehicle. Baldwin Man Nabbed For Alleged Sexual Assault, Police Search For Other Victims
Police arrested a Long Island man for reportedly raping a child and have asked any other potential victims to come forward. Baldwin man Stephen Vickers-Griffiths, age 35, was arrested on Monday, February 26, according to Nassau County Police. Vickers-Griffiths allegedly sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl and was arrested at Pines Motor Lodge in Westbury, located at 101 Taylor Avenue. 19-Year-Old Killed, Teenage Girl Injured During Shooting At Party On Long Island
Two teenagers were shot, one of whom was killed, during a shooting at a party on Long Island overnight. The incident happened around 9 p.m. Friday, March 22 in Bay Shore. Suffolk County Police officers responded to a 911 call stating that a teenage man was shot at 1320 Ackerson Blvd. When they arrived, they found Sean Mills, age 19, and a 17-year-old girl shot during an outside party with approximately 50 people in attendance. A 22-year-old man who coached two girl’s volleyball teams on Long Island has been arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a young player. Jason Maser was arrested at his Syosset home on Thursday, March 22, according to Nassau County Police. Maser worked as a volleyball coach for both Sacred Heart High School in Hempstead and B & B Volleyball in Albertson. A month after a serious crash on Long Island, police announced the death of one victim and the arrest of the person who they said was the cause of the wreck. Elvin J. Maradiaga, age 33 of Hempstead, was arrested in connection to the February crime, Nassau County Police announced on Thursday, March 41. The crash occurred at about 5:15 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 in Uniondale. A sheriff in New York is crediting recent jailhouse security upgrades for busting an inmate who allegedly tried smuggling in razor blades. The stomach-churning discovery was made Wednesday, March 20, inside the Albany County jail in Albany. Sheriff Craig Apple said the inmate was returning to the facility after pleading guilty to a weapon possession charge when he went through a body scanner meant to detect dangerous contraband. A man is facing charges after he was allegedly caught burglarizing a Long Island home. The incident happened Friday, March 15, at a residence in the hamlet of Remsenburg. Southampton Town Police said the homeowner called 911 at around 2:15 p.m. saying he came home to find a man at the bottom of his basement steps. Police are investigating reports of shots fired outside of a smoke shop on Long Island. It happened on Monday, March 18 in Elmont, according to Nassau County Police. A search is on for a suspect who made off with items worth thousands after burglarizing a Long Island home. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. Friday, March 15 in Jericho. Authorities are hoping that a cash reward will lead to an arrest after two small dogs were abandoned at a Long Island park. The mixed breed dogs, since named Thelma and Louise, were discovered at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park on Tuesday, March 5, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
