A new storm that will sweep through the area Thursday and Friday will soak the Lower Hudson Valley with up to 2 inches of rain.

A Flood Watch issued by the National Weather Service that includes Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties is in effect from 8 a.m. Thursday until 2 p.m. Friday.

Generally, 1.5 to 2 inches of rain is expected with locally higher amounts, especially in areas where there are thunderstorms. (See graphic above for projected amounts.)

Rainfall, heavy at times, is forecast Thursday before gradually decreasing from west to east Thursday night, according to the weather service, noted that thunderstorms with locally heavier rainfall rates are also possible, especially Thursday afternoon.

There is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts, according to the weather service, advising residents to monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings.

Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
