Placke announced his retirement beginning next March, when he will become the new executive director at Green Chimneys.
The school district has enlisted the help of Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES as search consultants.
“Dr. Placke’s legacy of leadership will be long remembered and appreciated. In addition to establishing and maintaining the incredible 80 percent high school graduation rate, he brought stability and compassion to our district,” School Board President Robert Maher said in a statement. “The new superintendent will have big shoes to fill, but we are confident that we will find an individual who will devote significant time to developing leadership and collaboration.”
There also will be an online survey on the school district's website to gauge what people are looking for in a prospective superintendent.
Maher is expecting the search to take about two months, with in-person interviews planned for the second round of applicants.
Plans are for the new superintendent to be named in September, with Placke and the new hire working together with the aim of a smooth transition.
