A man was caught red-handed attempting to shoplift items at an Armonk CVS, police said.

Officers from the North Castle Police Department were dispatched to CVS on Main Street shortly after 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, where there was a report of a shoplifting incident. When approached by store employees, the suspect turned over the merchandise before taking off in the direction of DeCicco’s.

Police said that the employees described the suspect as an African-American man in his 30s. He was wearing a green hat and white t-shirt with shorts when he ran off. Officers canvassed the area, but failed to track him down. Officers then interviewed the employee who stopped him. The investigation is ongoing.

Other items on the North Castle Police Department blotter from Aug. 17 through Aug. 23 include:

  • On Aug. 17, police received a report of a loose dog that came into her backyard and chased her children. After threatening the children, the dog returned to its Cat Rocks Drive home. Police said that the owner was admonished and that the dog was not aggressive when they interviewed the owner.
  • Police received a report of a black Ford Mustang driving erratically with a flat tire and front-end damage later that day. Police said that the car was removed from the roadway by Armonk Garage and the Bedford Police Department was notified.
  • Investigators responded to a suspicious incident involving an allegedly stolen Range Rover that was reportedly stolen from a Day Road residence.
  • On Aug. 21, police received a call who stated that a truck had struck a 30 mph speed sign on Business Park Drive and then a tree branch, which was left on the road. Officers responded to the scene and corroborated the report.
  • A well-intentioned local resident said that on Wednesday, Aug. 22, he spotted a white poodle running on Byram Ridge Road North in the roadway. He followed to dog to an area home and knocked on the door, though no one answered. Police said that the man instinctively then opened the door, and the poodle went inside, though he was unsure if the dog belongs there. Officers were sent to the home and everything checked out.
