Officers were dispatched to the library shortly before 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, when Carol Austin of White Plains put soap suds, or a similar substance, into the fountain. Police said the soap-like material compromised the fountain’s filtration system, and it had to be drained and cleaned.

The incident cost $700 to clean the fountain. Austin was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief. She has since been released and is due to appear in Mount Kisco Justice Court on Sept. 20 to answer the charge.
