West Harrison Family Is Looking For Dog That Went Missing In Armonk

ARMONK, N.Y. -- It would be a very happy new year for the Gaeta family of West Harrison if they were able to find their dog, Murphy, who went missing in Armonk a few days ago.

Murphy, a woodle, a poodle/terrier mix, went missing on Friday after running away from his dog walker while his leash was still attached in the Betsy Sluder Nature Preserve. He ran into Business Park Drive in Armonk and was seen near the La Quinta Inn.

The dog has been spotted throughout the area and was last seen at 40 Carolyn Place in Armonk. He still has his leash attached and spent the night in someone's backyard.

Murphy is a black male who weighs around 45 lbs and is 5 1/2 years old.

"He's just lovely," owner Justine Gaeta said. "He came to us at six weeks old. He's such a mama's boy. He's pretty shy. It would mean the world to us if we found him. He's very special to us. He's the most perfect dog ever."

Gaeta said Murphy would not be able to find his way home from Armonk. The Gaetas are using Norwalk-based Buddah Dog Rescue and Recovery to help them find Murphy.

The hope is to find a general location where they think Murphy is and leave food as a trap.

"He is in survival dog mode," Gaeta said. "He would run away from any human. We could not catch him by me calling his name."

Buddha Dog has found dogs that went missing for 12 days and was able to find a dog that survived 18 days in cold temperatures last winter.

"It gives me hope," Gaeta said. "My three kids don't know what to do without him."

Anyone who spots Murphy should call Gaeta at 914-393-6217.
