Yonkers resident Renzo Yance, 22, who pleaded guilty to a felony count of manslaughter earlier this year is due to be sentenced on Tuesday, when he will face a maximum term of up to 15 years in state prison for his role in the Aug. 26 fatal crash last year. Yance was originally scheduled to be sentenced last month, but the case was adjourned.
Members of the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to the northbound lanes of Central Park Avenue, near Sadore Lane at approximately 7:15 p.m. on the day of the crash, where there were reports of an accident involving an overturned vehicle.
Upon arrival, Yonkers Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said that officers spotted the vehicle in the roadway, with a passenger having been ejected from the vehicle further down the road, unconscious and unresponsive. First responders administered medical aid, including CPR and transported the 19-year-old Yonkers resident to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her boyfriend, who was also a passenger at the time of the crash, was hospitalized with injuries.
Westchester County Anthony Scarpino, Jr. Scarpino noted that Yance was driving without a license and was operating the vehicle at more than 100 mph at the time of the crash in Yonkers. Yance also pleaded guilty to two unrelated charges stemming from an earlier incident on Aug. 6, 2017 in Dobbs Ferry where Yance was driving without a license and under the influence of drugs.
Yance remains remanded to the Westchester County Jail as he awaits sentencing.
