ARMONK, N.Y. -A rezoning plan that would allow Mariani Gardens to lease space on its Bedford Road property to other businesses was denounced by residents at Wednesday night's North Castle Town Board meeting.
Members of the Concerned Citizens of Armonk, the Rev. Josh Condon, rector of St. Stephen's Church, and other residents criticized the rezoning plan. Condon said he wanted to "protect the church and the character of the town."
St. Stephen's is located across the street from Mariani Gardens.
Supervisor Howard Arden, who was overseeing his first town board meeting, said a public hearing will be held on the matter. He said a date would be set Jan. 25 at the board's next meeting.
The plan for a public hearing was made after the board voted to make itself the lead agency regarding the issue, which means the Planning Board won't have that role.
P. Daniel Hollis, an attorney at Shamberg Marwell & Hollis, which is representing Mariani Gardens, said his goal is to "make sure Mariani's property remains vibrant."
