Westchester County’s Adopt-a-Park program promotes public involvement in the maintenance, improvement and support of the nearly 18,000-acre Westchester County Park system.

“I am thrilled that L.L. Bean has joined the Adopt-a-Park effort to help make our parks the best they can be,” Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said. “I also want to thank Fujifilm for its continued commitment to the Westchester community through their generous donation of time and energy to our parks system.”

L.L. Bean recently adopted V.E. Macy Park, a 172-acre park centrally located off the Saw Mill River Parkway in Greenburgh. V.E. Macy Park is divided into three distinct areas for community members to enjoy.

“L.L. Bean is always looking for ways to stay active in our community,” said Dan McCluskey, manager of Outdoor Discover Schools for L.L. Bean.

“V.E. Macy Park is an obvious choice for us, not only due to proximity but also because of the access it provides to local outdoor activities. We look forward to doing our part in keeping the area beautiful.”

Having adopted Kensico Dam Plaza for the last several years, Fujifilm recently agreed to adopt the Valhalla park for another year. Built under the old dam that formed Lake Kensico, Kensico Dam Plaza is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Bronx River Parkway Reservation.

“Fujifilm is proud to continue its Adopt-a-Park support, and for the 14th year in a row, we will be helping to keep the Kensico Dam Plaza, a beautiful place for the community to visit,” said Shigeru Sano, president, Fujifilm Holdings America Corp.

Organizations like these participate in the Adopt-a-Park Program through tree plantings, pruning, trail clearing, painting, flower bed preparation and planting, and any other projects that will enhance the beauty of the park, for a one-year period.

“These volunteer groups find great satisfaction through the Adopt-a-Park Program,” said Joanne Fernandez, chairperson for Friends of Westchester County Parks.
