'She'll Always Be My Hero': Area Woman Thanks Life-Saving Doctor

A breast cancer diagnosis is frightening. Add to that the initial uncertainty and perhaps confusion surrounding treatment options and outcomes. That’s why when one area woman was diagnosed with breast cancer and learned she would need to undergo breast surgery, she chose the award-winning care team at Northern Westchester Hospital to perform breast cancer surgery combined with breast reconstruction.

Through what's known as aesthetic oncology, NWH staff combine the latest advances in cancer surgery and reconstructive breast surgery to reach optimal aesthetic and clinical outcomes, successfully removing cancer and creating better end results for patients.

Phyllis successfully underwent breast reconstruction surgery, removing harmful cancer through a minimally invasive procedure. Her surgeon, Dr. Julie Vasile, has dedicated her reconstructive surgery practice to treating women with breast cancer and other diseases.

"The facilities were fabulous and the care I got there, I can't even say how wonderful it was," said Phyllis. "The whole team, the staff, I couldn't have been in a better environment or better hands."

As she continues her life cancer-free, Phyllis still finds herself in awe of her energy, stamina and positivity. Between working out, enjoying time with friends and family and returning to an active lifestyle, she's forever grateful for the personal, compassionate care Vasile provided during her darkest days. "I'm very thankful that I chose her," she said. "She'll always be my hero."
