Armonk Singer Stars In 'The Sorcerer'

ARMONK, N.Y. -- Armonk singer John Matilaine will sing the role of Dr. Daly in the Troupers Light Opera performance of Gilbert and Sullivan’s "The Sorcerer" April 16 and 23 in the Norwalk Concert Hall.

A bass role, Dr. Daly is one of the main characters in the opera who, under the influence of the Sorcerer’s magic potion, falls in love with the wrong woman, with typically comic Gilbertian results. 

John Matilaine has sung solo roles nine times with Troupers Light Opera, and also in Curtain Call’s production of "My Fair Lady" as Colonel Pickering.

He appears in the Taconic Opera in Yorktown Heights, sings with the Charis Chamber Voices, the Hoff Barthelson Festival Chorus, Collegium of Westchester and the TreasureHouse Chorale.

The Sorcerer is Gilbert and Sullivan’s first full-length comic opera.

Stage and musical direction of Troupers is by Dan Montez and Jun Nakabayashi, with full orchestra, period costumes, and professional set design. 

Performances will be Saturday April 16 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 23 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. at 125 East Ave., Norwalk.
