Freeze-Up Follows Storm: Watch For Icy Roads, Walkways, Armonk

The Nor'easter that brought more than two feet of snow to parts of the Hudson Valley has headed east, but a freeze-up will follow that will make for more slippery travel through Wednesday as another blast of frigid Canadian Arctic air will grip the area through midweek.

Wind gusts may surpass 40 miles per hour at times Wednesday with sporadic power outages possible, according to AccuWeather.com.

The cold air will cause some sudden snow showers and snow squalls on Wednesday with the high temperature staying right below freezing at about 30 degrees.

This will result in icy roads and walkways as residual snow and slush refreezes, the National Weather Service said. Extra caution should be used.

Motorists and pedestrians will need to keep an eye out for patches of ice, which may appear to be wet, and large piles of snow near intersections will make for dangerous conditions, AccuWeather said.

Remember to keep fire hydrants free from snow. When possible, avoid parking on streets where snow has made passages narrow.

In addition, safety officials are warning to make sure the vehicle's tailpipe is also clear.

Each year in the U.S., approximately 500 deaths are attributed to unintentional carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, that includes drivers sitting in their cars while the tailpipe is blocked with snow, according to the Center for Disease Control. For more on that, click here.

Thursday will be mostly sunny, but the high will again be just below freezing.

Friday will be sunny with a high in the mid-30s.

Snow is likely Saturday morning before changing to rain by afternoon as the high temperature climbs above 40.
