Rain is expected to hold off on Monday, July 4th until the late evening hours, but its arrival could be a close call for some firework displays.

Daytime rain and thunderstorms will threaten parades, barbecues and fireworks displays across much of the eastern United States on Monday, according to AccuWeather.com.

That won't be the case during the day in the Hudson Valley where Independence Day should be mostly sunny, according to the National Weather Service. However showers are expected sometime in the evening, with the timing of the first raindrops uncertain, but expected to be no earlier than 9 p.m.

Showers could arrive Monday night as early as 9 p.m. in some parts of the area, especially south. Then showers and thunderstorms are expected after 11 p.m., possibly becoming heavy into the early morning hours before wrapping up by 3 a.m.

Monday will be a bit warmer, with a high around 85, and mostly sunny. There is a chance of showers after 9 p.m.

Sun returns Tuesday with a high near 85.
