The National Weather Service has posted a winter storm watch for Westchester County for the storm now called “Nemo.” The town of North Castle is expecting the worst case scenario.

“We are expecting it to be a big one,” said North Town Administrator Joan Goldberg.

Goldberg said the department, which has lost more than 20 percent of its staff this year, has brought back four retired members for the weekend to ensure town roads stay passable.

“We have 24 plow routes and only 16 workers in our highway department, so we added four for this storm,” she said. “We are also joining forces with our sewer and water and parks departments, along with building maintenance. It will be a complete team effort.”

Goldberg said she was confident in the town’s ability to manage Nemo, so long as none of its snowplows break down.

“Our fleet is aging,” she said. “But hopefully it won’t be a problem.”

With trees fallen or weakened from Hurricane Sandy, Goldberg said the town was doing everything it can to avoid further damage from Nemo.

“Con Edison has people out there today making and we’ll be having a conference call with them today to go over everything,” she said.

The town administrator said she had complete faith in town employees to manage the storm effectively.

“These guys know what they’re doing,” she said. “This is what they do for a living.”
