Morning snow could be followed by a wintry mix Saturday in the area, but Christmas Day should be a mostly sunny one, according to the National Weather Service.

Those hitting the road for the holidays Thursday could see showers between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. during what will be a mostly cloudy day with a high in the lower 40s.

It will clear up Thursday night, with a low around 30 degrees.

Friday will be a pleasant day with plenty of sun and a high approaching 45 degrees.

Clouds will increase Friday night with the low dipping below freezing at between 28 and 30 degrees.

Christmas Eve Day starts out with a chance of snow overnight through around 9 a.m., followed by a chance of a wintry mix until around 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. 

As temperatures warm up, any precipitation will change to rain after 11 a.m. as the high temperature is expected to reach 42 to 44 degrees. The chance of precipitation is 50 percent on what will be a mostly cloudy day.

Skies will clear overnight, ushering in a mostly sunny Christmas Day on Sunday with a high at or near 45 degrees.

Monday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and a high in the mid 40s.
