Wheelchair Hoops Tourney Tuesday at County Center

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The fifth annual Wheelchair Basketball Tournament begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday as the Cerebral Palsy of Westchester’s Barrier Breakers takes on the rival Wildcats from The Westchester School for Special Children.

The county helps put on the event, as the Office for the Disabled coordinates it and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation offers the venue for the game.

“We are delighted to give our support to this fabulous event,” said County Executive Rob Astorino. “These kids are outstanding athletes, and their enthusiasm is contagious. Through a program like this, they get the opportunity to enjoy the spirit of competition.”

Cerebral Palsy of Westchester offers education, career training, rehabilitation and sports opportunities to more than 1,000 residents of the county. Any child age 10-21 with a disability in Westchester County is eligible for the Barrier Breakers team. The adult team is open to county residents age 21 and older.

Admission to Tuesday’s game is free.
