Umpires vs. Coaches Fundraiser Game Finalized

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The first Umpires vs. Coaches for Cancer Awareness softball game is set for Friday at Pleasantville High School, according to an email from event organizer Joseph Racioppo.

“It’s full steam ahead and all systems are a go,” Racioppo said via email.

Racioppo is an umpire with the Westchester County Umpires Association who lost his wife to cancer last year. He has worked for months to organize the game, in which the coaches and umpires will compete for bragging rights.

Varsity umpires from throughout the county have come together to form a team, while various head coaches and assistant coaches make up the opposing team. The two sides will meet at 4 p.m. Friday at Pleasantville High School, and Racioppo is excited.

“This is the first time an event of this caliber has ever been attempted and I must say the umpires are clearing their calendars just to go up against the coaches for bragging rights,” Racioppo said via email. “This should be an epic outing sure to be worth the wait.”
