School, local and state officials were on hand to honor Somers High School's two current state championship teams (football and boys soccer), as well as the 2014 girls soccer champs, and the 2004 cross country title team.

Individual state champs Dylan and Brian (three-time champ) Realbuto, who were unable to attend, were also honored.

The teams and Somers cheerleaders, twirlers and others marched from Van Tassel Park to Somers High, where the athletes were toasted by State Sen. Terrence Murphy, Town of Somers Supervisor Rick Morrissey, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Raymond Blanch, Somers Principal Mark Bayer, Somers Athletic Director Roman Catalino, Board of Ed President Sarena Meyer and others.

"With nine state titles in recent years, Somers is now 'Title Town,' " Morrissey announced to the crowd, which responded with thunderous applause.

Each coach said a few words, and was given a proclamation by  Murphy.

Girls soccer coach Paul Saia told the crowd that football Head Coach Tony DeMatteo is "perhaps the greatest high school coach in America."

During DeMatteo's speech, he noted that the team and its supporters gave him "the greatest season of his career," which spans 47 years - so far.

"The only reason this happened is because of all of you - because of the way you parents have raised these kids," DeMatteo told the crowd full of Somers parents.
