The event is organized by The Stayin' Alive Team, a non-profit organization established to continue the mission on raising awareness and charity funds for the first responders of Armonk.

The fun run is in line with the observance of the bravery of responders after Hurricane Sandy hit North Castle in 2012. Firefighters, police officers, highway department groups and emergency services personnel made their way through the massive destruction of trampled power lines, fallen trees, broken street signs, downed steel poles and scattered wind-blown debris after the storm – sacrificing their lives in the midst of danger.

The aftermath of the disaster left lingering thoughts of suffering for those who survived the hurricane’s wrath. Most areas in Armonk had to live for almost two weeks without power and clean water.

In particular, the Stayin' Alive Team recalls an event on Oct. 29, 2012, when two community members suffered serious accidents from the calamity. After being stuck for three hours, the two were saved by the emergency responders but suffered immense trauma after the disaster.

The organizers look back on this touching story as a triumph and display of strength of the Armonk community. The survivors and their families are continuing to extend their gratitude for the sacrifices of North Castle’s rescue teams. With this fitness event, there will be a chance for the neighborhood to give back to the first responders the honor for their spirit and heroism.
