This year's helmets are inspired by the University of Hawaii. The helmet design's theme is pupukahi i holomua, which means, "unite and move forward as one. The triangles represent mind, body, and spirit.

"I love that such a positive message will be surrounding our kids this year while on the football field," Superintendent Tony Sinanis said.

Jesse Merchant, the new athletic director at Hastings, said the design theme fits perfectly with what's going on with Hastings. There was a concern the team would not have enough players until it merged with Clark Academy in Dobbs Ferry and Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in Greenburgh.

"We are uniting and moving forward," Merchant said "Without these schools, Hastings would not have a program. The team brings together a lot of different perspectives. We're a real melting pot. I think we have a lot of potential."

Merchant said he is pumped for the season to start. The team is able to practice on its own field and will start the year with a run of home games.

"We feel like it's our time to be successful and show off our talents," Merchant said. "Everyone is more excited than they've been in a long time."
