Cortlandt Manor resident Matt Ryan, a standout at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, is a freshman forward for the Fighting Irish.

Sixth-seeded Notre Dame (24-11) faces top seed North Carolina (31-6) Sunday at 8:50 p.m. in the East Region final.

The Fighting Irish advanced to the Elite Eight by defeating No. 7 Wisconsin 61-56 Friday in the Sweet 16. Ryan had four rebounds in 12 minutes played in that game.

The 6-foot-8, 217-pound Ryan, is a multi-dimensional player. An underrated passer, he is known for his shooting ability. He is averaging 5.6 points per game, with four starts in 35 games played.

Ryan was named "Mr. Basketball" in New York state last year at Iona Prep, averaging 20 points, eight rebounds five assists per game as the Gaels went 22-6 record en route to the program's first Class AA Archdiocesan title.
