Women's basketball coaching legend Pat Summitt and NFL defensive guru Buddy Ryan both died on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. Summit was 64. Ryan was 82.

Summitt stepped down as the head coach of the University of Tennessee women's basketball program in 2012 after announcing she was battling dementia, Alzheimer's type.

During her 38 year stint at Tennessee, Summitt won 1,098 games, the most of any Division I basketball coach -- men or women.

Summitt was named coach of the year seven times and guided the Lady Vols to 22 Final Four appearances and eight national championships, according to a report on ESPN.com.

Ryan coached in the NFL for 26 seasons. He is best-remembered for building the famed 46 defense that led the Chicago Bears to a 46-10 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX.

Ryan also served as a head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals. He compiled a 55-55-1 record as a head coach.

Ryan is the father of former Jets head coach Rex Ryan, now the head coach of the Buffalo Bills.
