The nonprofit announced recently that it had funded 22 grants in the district totaling $39,335 for the 2015-2016 school year. It is the largest pool of grants given out since the foundation was created in 1993.

The check was presented at the Board of Education meeting on June 6 and recipients gathered Aug. 31 for a group photo.

Grants were funded in areas of nutrition, science, sports, art, special education, reading and music. Some specific projects included a pollination garden at Crompond, a greenhouse at Brookside, a sculpture studio at the high school, robotics kits for the middle school, new microscopes at Crompond, tennis equipment at the middle school, physical education equipment at Crompond and a multi-week music workshop for special education students.

“We are inspiring the next generation and funding the dreams of tomorrow,” said Reshmi Bose, a Board of Education trustee and outgoing foundation president.

The Foundation for Excellence in Yorktown Education was established to raise funds beyond the scope of school budgets for innovative projects and programs which will further enhance the education of Yorktown students.
