ARMONK, N.Y. – Byram Hills High School students Rose Lynn Arditi, Zachary Blum, Jonathan Tyler Bricker, Christopher August Di Capua and Gregory Fishberger have been selected as semifinalists for the 2013 Intel Science Talent Search, widely considered the nation’s most prestigious pre-college science competition.

The five students were selected from 1,712 entrants from 467 high schools, 42 states, the Discrict of Columbia, Guam and two U.S. overseas schools.

They are now five of 300 semifinalists in the nation who will now have the chance to advance to the finals, where 40 students will be invited to Washington D.C. in March to compete for the top award of $100,000.

  • Arditi has been recognized for her work with manganese-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging for measuring in vivo hippocampal. Her project also focuses on the structure and function in a mouse model of fear memory resilience and susceptibility.
  • Blum has been selected for his work evaluating the executive functioning, processing speed and P300 event-related potential as predictors of memory in younger and older adults.
  • Bricker heads to the semifinals for his project that centers on the acute and chronic effects of ethanol and GABA-mediated synapses in the rattus novergicus.
  • Di Capua’s comparison of conventional CPR and CPR  using a novel automatic transport ventilator was his ticket to the semifinals".
  • Fishberger has been selected for his analysis of the novel zinc finger protein’s targeted approach to active DNA demethylation.

The finals will be March 7-13 at the Intel Science Talent Institute. Those finalists will undergo further judging and share $630,000 in awards.
