VALHALLA, N.Y. -- When former Westchester Community College President Dr. Joseph Hankin announced his retirement last year, the school was tasked with having to replace a pillar in the community and an advisor who had spent 43 years running the institution.
Enter Dr. Belinda S. Miles, a Queens native who has an academic career tailor-made to guide Westchester Communitiy College into the next era.
Miles has been working in higher education since 1986, including as executive vice president of Access, Learning, and Success at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, an institution that serves 48,000 students.
Miles has also held academic positions at LaGuardia Community College, Nassau Community College, and Columbia University.
Since arriving at Westchester Community College, Miles has hit the ground running.
"I've been here just over two months, but we've been discussing five major themes for our work here at the college," Miles told Daily Voice. "We're focused squarely on student success. Helping them have access to our institution and succeeding through each stage of their educational journey."
