Boynton's appointment is effective on Feb. 9 and covers a three-year probationary period. She was on hand for the board's appointment vote. The official name of her title is called director of special services and health services

District officials had praise for their soon-to-be colleague.

Schools Superintendent William Donohue called Boynton "an exceptionally qualified person.”

Jennifer Lamia, the district's assistant to the superintendent, recited Boynton's prior special-education experience, which has included a similar role in the Cornwall school district in New York -- and in the Miami-Dade district in Florida.

School Board President Ira Schulman congratulated Boynton.

“We’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about you," he said. "We are thrilled that you’re joining us.”

Speaking briefly following the vote for her appointment, Boyton said, "I appreciate the opportunity,” adding that she is looking forward to working with the community and administrators.
