Christopher Walsh of Pawling, who has served as the school’s assistant principal since 2010 and has worked there in other capacities for 13 years, will replace Christopher Borsari.

Borsari is leaving his post next month to become superintendent of the Tarrytown school district.

The search committee looked within and without the district, but it was Walsh’s knowledge of the district, combined with his experience and education, that made his application stand out, said William Donohue, Byram Hills schools superintendent.

Walsh has been a high school science teacher, coach and assistant athletic director, Donohue said.

He has also been an officer on merchant ships sailing around the world.

Walsh has master’s degrees in education from both Harvard University and Bank Street College in New York.

Donohue said he was “confident” that Walsh will “have a great impact on the development and success of our students.”

Before joining the district in 2003, Walsh was an ensign in the Naval Reserves after graduating from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Following the 9/11 attacks, Walsh served as a captain in the New York Naval Militia.

He later decided to pursue a career in education.

Walsh, who is married, has four children.
