ARMONK, N.Y. A transfer student and varsity soccer player from the Ivory Coast and a student leader and athlete were named Byram Hills' Homecoming King and Queen on Saturday during the 2012 Homecoming weekend.
Students selected Jean Morel and Diandra Liso to be their king and queen. Morel and Liso were honored with the rest of the homecoming court during halftime at the homecoming football game against Yonkers' Lincoln High School.
Morel came to Byram Hills about three years ago. Since then, he's learned English and joined the boys' varsity soccer team.
Liso leads the girls' soccer and track teams. She sits on the student athletic leadership committee and is president of Habitat for Humanity. Liso also works as a senior mentor.
Laura Sachetti and Alyssa Ponzo were named second-runner up and third-runner up for Homecoming Queen. Sachetti is a member of the activities board and is the boys' basketball team manager. Ponzo is a member of the varsity lacrosse and soccer teams and captain of the Science Olympiad team, as well as participating in several other organizations.
Alex Katz and John Milani were chosen as the second-runner up and third-runner up for Homecoming King. Katz is a senior. Milani is a peer mentor and tutor who also speaks three languages.
