Two Signature grants were awarded for MacBook Pro laptops to modernize the photography curriculum at Byram Hills High School, and the Mobile Learning Pilot grant that provided 210 Chromebook laptop computers for every sixth grade student at H.C. Crittenden Middle School.
Four Insta-Grants were awarded to fund the following:
Coman Hill Elementary and Wampus Elementary Schools received Cubelets Educator Robotics Kits for STEAM Integration. This grant funds educator sets of Cubelet Robotic Block Kits that introduce STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) concepts in the second- and third-grade technology curriculum.
Byram Hills High School received the Art Therapy for Flexible Support Program. This grant funds an art therapy program to foster the social and emotional development and overall performance within the school environment.
Wampus Elementary received a Mindset Pilot Materials grant. This grant funds "Get Smart" Toolkits for three third-grade classes, which leverage the work of Carol Dweck, whose research is a growing trend in teaching children how to persevere in the face of challenge. The Toolkits provide practical applications for children to build confidence, take on challenges and persevere in the face of difficulty or failure.
Byram Hills High School received the ETC Source Four PAR Cans grant. This grant funds a bank of parabolic aluminized reflector (PAR) theatrical lights to be installed in the high school theater.
"We thank all of the parents and businesses in our community who have generously supported the Byram Hills Education Foundation,” said Scott R. Levy, foundation chairman.
“The breadth and depth of the grants awarded this year are indicative of the important partnership role that the Byram Hills Education Foundation has come to play in our school district,” said William M. Donohue, superintendent of schools of the Byram Hills Central School District.
The Byram Hills Education Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that provides financial support for materials and programs beyond what is covered by the school district’s annual operating budget. Since its inception in 1994, the Foundation has awarded more than 325 grants totaling more than $3.7 million.
