Armonk's Binder Wins Gold At International Fencing Cup

ARMONK, N.Y. – Sylvie Binder of Armonk won the gold medal at the Tauberbischofsheim Cadet European Cup, an international fencing competition held in Germany on Nov. 28.

Binder is now ranked No. 2 in the USA National Point Standings for the Cadet level, which comprises fencers ages 16 and younger.

This victory marks the second time Binder won a metal during the international season. In October, she won a bronze medal in the Gyor Cup in Hungary.

At the recent competition, Binder led the U.S. sweep of the top three spots along with Morgan Partridge, of Swansea, Mass. and Stefani Deschner, of Mechanicsville, Va., who came in second and third, respectively.  

Binder trains at the Fencing Academy of Westchester under the coaching of Anya Katkova and Slava Grigoriev.

She began fencing at the age of 7.
