The department's safety technicians will begin conducting child safety seat installations/inspections for the Fairfield community beginning on Saturday, Jan. 30, at Police Headquarters, 100 Reef Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During the meetings, technicians will demonstrate and explain to parents and caregivers about the proper selection, installation, and use of car seats, booster seats and the proper use of seat belts.
Car crashes are a leading cause of death for children one to 13 years old. Many times deaths and injuries can be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters, and seat belts. According to state law, all children are required to ride in an approved child safety seat until they are seven years old and weigh 60 pounds.
The Police Department reminds all citizens that properly restraining their children while riding in vehicles is an everyday, year-round responsibility.
