ARMONK, N.Y. - One Armonk resident's plan to knock down their current home and build a new one that is nearly triple in size has some nearby residents concerned.

"Why on such a narrow property would you build such a huge house?" said Armonk resident Beth Bromberg. "There's plenty of homes for sale in the Windmill area."

The North Castle Planning Board had a neighbor notification session at its regular meeting Monday evening in Armonk. The session was intended to let neighbors know an applicant living at 43 Evergreen Row has plans to knock down the current home to build and entirely new home. The current home is listed at 2,588 square feet and was built in 1961 with four bedrooms. The new home will be 7,714 square feet with five bedrooms. The plan also includes a new septic system and will require the removal of 19 trees from the property.

Around a dozen neighbors living on Evergreen Row attended the session to voice their concerns and ask questions about the plan. Planning Board Chairman Arthur Adelman said although some neighbors may not be happy with the massive addition to the property, the plan does comply with all town codes.

"It may not please the neighbors, but applicants have the right to build within their lots," Adelman said. "There are codes that they need to conform to but if they do then they have the rights to develop."

Since the plan is compliant with all town codes, residents' hands were tied with altering the expansion project. Evergreen Row resident Earle Yaffa said he was happy about the change but concerned it would alter the road forever.

"Whatever they build there will be an improvement on what's there now," Yaffa said. "But it's going to change the character of Evergreen."
