Agent Knits Her Clients Into a Community

Lou Pollak, a top agent with Houlihan Lawrence since she began more than 25 years ago, treats her customers in a unique way. She covers her own town of Larchmont, as well as Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and Rye Neck and appreciates what makes each town different. She also appreciates that they are all on the water, only a 30-minute commute from New York City and offer incredible schools and amenities.

Acknowledging that all agents say they are concerned about their customers, Pollak cites example after example of how she goes the extra mile. Pollak is known for staying in touch with buyers for years, often providing names of handymen, painters and more — but that is just the tip of the iceberg. She also brings food the night her buyers close “so they don’t have to worry about dinner."

Pollak puts her hobbies and career together by knitting blankets for clients’ babies. “I always work from my heart, never my pocket,” she says. Known for referrals and repeat customers, Pollak truly gets to know her clients.

Each year, she throws a dinner party for her most recent clients. As part of the event, Pollak invites everyone to join a mailing list with names, contact information and ages of children so the partygoers can keep in touch. Pollak says this event forges long-term relationships and enables new residents to feel less alone.

The mother of two grown children, Pollak has been married to her husband, Jay, for more than 40 years. She says she often does quilting and knitting while they watch the Yankees together. Pollak was a dental assistant and secretary before choosing real estate. “Every deal is different. Every person is different.”
