ARMONK, N.Y. – With so many residents without power, polling place workers in Armonk said the turnout on Tuesday brought voters from all over the state.

"We've had people come here to vote from as far as Saratoga today," said Rita Vettaretti, a poll worker at North Castle Town Hall in Armonk. "It's been a great turnout this year."

Vettaretti said residents from other towns were allowed to vote with affidavit ballots and many people were taking advantage of it as they were stuck in the area due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

As of Tuesday morning, 2,400 customers in North Castle were still without power. The power outage did not force North Castle to change any of its polling places, though. Besides voting for president, there were a number of local elections specific to North Castle, such as New York State Senate and Assembly races.

Armonk resident Lucille Barbato Spiegel said in a Facebook post the power outage did not stop her from voting this morning at the Armonk Firehouse.

"Got there early and there was no line, but crowd came in as we were leaving," Barbato Spiegel said. "Still no power at home, but power in the right to vote!"

Vettaretti said that she believes that the number of voters this year is in line with the number that came to vote in 2008.

"Presidential elections are always our greatest elections in terms of the amount of voters," Vettaretti said. "I think people this year just want change."
