State Sen. Challenger Ali Boak Calls On Terrence Murphy To 'Dump Trump'

State Sen. Terrence Murphy (R-Yorktown) and his Democratic opponent, Ali Boak of Pound Ridge have both condemned Republican presidential nominee and Bedford estate owner Donald Trump's comments about groping women.

Sen. Terrence Murphy condemned comments by Donald Trump about groping woman. His opponent, Ali Boak, said he should renounce and withdraw his support of Trump.

Boak is also calling for Murphy to "Dump Trump" amid the fallout.

"The recently publicized comments by Donald Trump are terribly disappointing," Murphy, who represents the 40th Senate District, said in a posting on his Facebook page.  "I echo RNC Chairman Reince Preibus' statement that no woman should be described in this context.

"The next generation of American leadership must be focused on uniting citizens from different parts of society, not dividing us further. I remain fully committed to building these important coalitions throughout the Hudson Valley that will ensure everyone, regardless of gender or race, has the opportunity to succeed."

Despite the comments, Murphy's campaign declined to say whether he was endorsing Trump or planned on voting for him, saying he was focused on representing the people of the 40th district.

"Sen. Murphy was one of the first Republicans in the state to reject Donald Trump's unacceptable behavior when his recorded conversation became public," William Faulkner, a spokesman for Murphy said. "As a father and husband, Sen. Murphy expressed his feelings on this matter because it was the right thing to do."

Boak said that's not enough.

"For Terrence Murphy to simply call these remarks 'disappointing' and leave it at that is a slap in the face to women everywhere," Boak said. "His continued support of Trump shows a total lack of judgment that should disqualify him from serving the families of this community.

"For the sake of our country, I urge Sen. Murphy stand up for what's right and immediately renounce Trump and withdraw his support."

Faulkner accused Boak of publicizing the 2005 video from NBC-TV's "Access Hollywood" video for her own benefit.

"Given the seriousness of this situation, Ms. Boak's actions are wrong too and she should refocus her campaign on issues and a positive agenda," Faulkner said.

Trump's comments were recorded on a hot microphone when he was taping the interview for "Access Hollywood" and released on Friday by the Washington Post. Trump is heard talking about pursuing a married woman and getting away with groping women because he was a celebrity. Trump apologized for the comments, characterizing them as "locker room banter."

Since the recordings, numerous Republican politicians have withdrawn their support of Trump including Ohio Senator Rob Portman, New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte and Utah Senator Mike Lee. Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the House, has said he will no longer campaign for Trump.

In addition to his Bedford estate, Trump also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.

The 40th Senate District includes Beekman and Pawling in Dutchess County, Carmel, Patterson and Southeast and Brewster in Putnam County, and Peekskill, Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers, Yorktown, Mount Kisco, Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Croton-on-Hudson, Pleasantville and Sleepy Hollow in Westchester.
