North Castle Voters Will Decide On Ward Referendum

ARMONK, N.Y. -- North Castle will hold a special election on Thursday, Nov. 13, for a referendum on whether to switch the Town Board's council seats to a ward system.

The five-member North Castle Town Board would increase to seven members if voters approve one of the referendums.

Currently, council members are elected on a town-wide, at-large basis. Under the proposal, they would be elected by geographic districts, or wards, for parts of the town.

The election also includes a second referendum question, which is for whether two council seats should be added to the board.

Polls are scheduled to be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. The town announced that voters who normally vote at town hall, the Hergenhan Recreation Center or H.C. Crittenden Middle School must go to a consolidated polling place, at the Armonk firehouse.

Voters who normally go to the Armonk firehouse, the Banksville firehouse or the Community Center in North White Plains are scheduled to have the same places, the town announced.

Signs advocating for and against the ward proposal have been displayed across town. Meanwhile, the debate over the ward system proposal has reportedly gotten heated, based on comments in local media outlets, including Daily Voice.

Information about the special election is available on the town's website.
