Bramson announced Friday that he will seek the Democratic nomination next year to run for Westchester County Executiver.

“We need a County Executive with a coherent vision for growing our economy and attracting new jobs, for cutting government waste and inefficiency, and for making good on our commitment to seniors, children, and working parents,” Bramson said in a statement.

Bramson has been mayor of New Rochelle's since 2006. He was re-elected in 2011 with 79 percent of the vote, according to his website.

“As the Mayor of a diverse and complex community, I have brought people together to achieve positive change. As County Executive, I will act with innovation and energy to shape a stronger, healthier, and more inclusive Westchester,” he said. “It is time for a serious debate about our future, and I intend to offer a campaign of substance and ideas.”

Bramson also intends to focus on growing the economy, reduce waste, decrease the region’s tax burden, and invest in the county’s future. Bramson also plans to focus on seniors, children, and working parents.

Jessica Proud, a spokeswoman for Astorino, said the county executive had fulfilled his promises to voters and is focused on continuing to guide the county.

"County Executive Astorino has kept his promise to bring responsible and efficient government to Westchester families,” she said in an e-mail.

“He just signed his third-straight, bi-partisan budget that keeps county taxes frozen. The county executive is focused on his job and nothing else. There is a time for politics and a time for governing, and this is a time for governing," she said.

Astorino was elected County Executive in November 2009 after running a campaign to streamline county government and bring tax relief to over-burdened homeowners and businesses according to his campaign website. He was elected with almost 58 percent of the vote the site said.
