The North White Plains branch will receive $53,765 to upgrade exterior lighting, support expanded computer usage and provide additional space for library programming. The Armonk branch library will receive $19,956 to replace their HVAC system, improve access for those with disabilities and install energy efficient LED lighting.
Funding for the Public Library Construction Grant Program was included in the 2016-17 state budget for renovations and construction projects to enhance public libraries and library systems.
“These funds will provide better access to our local libraries, more services and space at the libraries, and will allow our libraries to conserve energy while making the patron experience better,” said State Senator George Latimer (D-Rye). “These projects are a big win for local residents.”
Last year, Assemblyman David Buchwald and Latimer joined with their colleagues to successfully exempt the North Castle Public Library, and other libraries around the region, from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s payroll tax, thereby saving them thousands of dollars each year.
“We are all very pleased to have the grant monies awarded to our libraries here in North Castle,” said Edie Martimucci, library director for the North Castle Public Library System. “The enhancements will improve our facilities and benefit the communities greatly. Our thanks to Assemblyman Buchwald and Senator Latimer for being tremendous advocates for our libraries.”
