The afternoon session on Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention featured a testimonial on behalf of nominee Hillary Clinton by the Chappaqua resident's own congresswoman, Nita Lowey.

"It is my pleasure to welcome you in the City of Brotherly Love to nominate our first sister president," Lowey said in a speech delivered on the convention floor in Philadelphia.

Lowey, who represents Rockland and most of Westchester, told delegates that she has the "privilege" to "serve teachers, first-responders, veterans, college students, small-business owners and seniors and my good friend and colleague, the next president of the United States of America, Hillary Clinton."

Lowey, a Harrison resident, said she and other New Yorkers "really know Hillary."

Lowey introduced the former secretary of state during one of Clinton's first New York primary campaign stops at SUNY Purchase on April 1.

"Not only has she been our first lady and secretary of state, Hillary has been our neighbor, our friends, and for eight years, our fierce ally in the United States Senate," she said.

Lowey said she learned from working alongside Clinton that "Hillary doesn't just fight the tough battles, Hillary wins them."

Lowey cited Clinton's work on behalf of America's middle class and lifetime in public service and drew a comparison to another Westchester resident, Republican nominee Donald Trump, who owns an estate in Bedford.

"Donald Trump has devoted his life and career to, well, Donald Trump," Lowey said
