Sanders, who grew up in Brooklyn, is facing Hillary Clinton, who lives in Chappaqua and represented New York as Senator.
Dutchess County Executive Mark Molinaro said he was thrilled a presidential candidate was coming to Dutchess County.
"We invited all the candidates here," Molinaro said. "This is a great opportunity to have our voices heard."
Molinaro said he would ask Sanders and any of the candidates what their jobs plan was and how they would grow the economy.
Michael Davidson left FDR High School in Hyde Park so he could be one of the first in line at the rally.
"We believe Bernie Sanders is the only valid candidate," Davidson said. "He speaks the truth. He's the only one who talks about climate change and how corrupt the system is."
Davidson, who turns 18 next week, said he is looking forward to having Sanders be the first candidate he votes for.
Bob Dorn, who grew up in Poughkeepsie, said it was an honor to have Sanders come to his hometown.
"Hes the only honest candidate," Dorn said. "He keeps his promises. He promotes massive change, which is what we need."
Caroline Murphy, Rachel Care and Lillian Lawrence all were looking forward to supporting Sanders.
"I support his policies," Murphy said. "He's the better candidate among the two. I respect Hilary Clinton, but Bernie is the more progressive candidate."
Care that Sanders was the more feminist candidate, who supported raising the minimum wage and standing up for women.
Lawrence said she loves Bernie's policies and that he wants to make America better.
"This is my first time voting," Lawrence, who just turned 18, said. "I'm so excited to vote for him."
Taylor McArdle brought her own sign to the Sanders rally. She said Sanders was her hero.
"He fights for gay rights and against income equality," McArdle, a Pleasant Valley resident said. "He fights for people of color. He's not just putting on a facade. He's sincere. I am all the way for Bernie, 115 percent."
