Michael Lawler was hired as an assistant to the county executive on Jan. 12. He took the position over for Joseph Kenner, who was promoted to deputy commissioner last year, LoHud.com reported.

A spokesman for Astorino said Lawler was hired based on his work experience and not because of his efforts on the campaign trail, LoHud.com said.
