Buchwald said the bill he sponsored "to fully restore funding for programs" to the OPWDD is set to restore $90 million in cuts to the OPWDD that were made in this year’s budget, according to the release.
“Restoring this funding will help ensure some of our most vulnerable citizens will be able to enjoy a better quality of life,” said Buchwald in the release. “This is a huge victory for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, and it was simply the right thing for us to do.”
When it came to the 2013-14 state budget, a $30 million restoration was made to OPWDD funding – leaving a cut of $90 million, according to the release.
“The cuts to OPWDD and the potential loss of services affected so many families across the state that it was imperative something be done,” said Buchwald in the release. “My greatest hope is that the restoration of this funding will help make life a little easier for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families by alleviating some of the unnecessary burdens that have been placed on them.”
