Armonk's Brynwood Golf Club Plans Residences

ARMONK, N.Y. – Brynwood Golf & Country Club in Armonk may soon be getting a major face-lift, as it is proposing a multistructure residential community on its Bedford Road property.

The plan includes 98 total residences that would consist of two-, three- and four-bedroom structures that could allow members to live at the country club. Mark Weingarten, a lawyer representing the country club, said the effects of the new housing community may not be as significant as some residents may assume.

“This project is going to attract a lot of the 50-years-and-over crowd, some of which are already members at the club,” Weingarten said. “Most of those people have kids who are much older and wouldn’t be in the school-age range.”

The plan is to build the housing community on a 14.7-acre parcel adjacent to Bedford Road. The plan also would reduce the size of the current clubhouse from 65,000 square feet to about 62,000 and reduce the number of tennis courts at the club from 14 to six. Brynwood also plans an additional exit driveway from the parking lot that would allow traffic to turn only right onto Bedford Road.

With the additional residences, Weingarten said, the traffic in and out should not be an issue.

“The people who are going to live in these residences are either already members or will need to become members of the club,” Weingarten said. “So this will eliminate that driving back and forth from their homes to the club.”

Brynwood estimates that 50 percent of the current members are residents of North Castle. The club has set up a website to provide information about the development at www.brynwoodvision.com.

Brynwood submitted its plan to the North Castle Town Board last week, asking for changes to the town zoning code regulating membership clubs to allow the project. Town Supervisor Howard Arden said the proposal will be discussed at the board’s next public meeting Sept. 27.
