Unlicensed Driver With Dagger, Warrants Flees After Taconic Stop

A 33-year-old unlicensed driver carrying a dagger is behind bars after state police say he fled from his vehicle and into the nearby woods after a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway in East Fishkill.

At approximately 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, troopers observed Jordan Bennett of Poughkeepsie operating on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of East Fishkill and stopped him for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law. 

After being stopped, Bennett fled, leading to additional assets being called in to assist before Bennett was taken into custody without further incident, state police said.

Bennett was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a Class D felony,  as well as obstruction of governmental administration, a class A misdemeanor, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, an unclassified misdemeanor.

In addition to the dagger in his possession, Bennett was found to have several pending warrants for his arrest.

Bennett was arraigned before the town of East Fishkill Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail $20,000 bond.
