On Saturday night, officers were dispatched to a Barberry Lane Road, where there were reports of a noise complaint. Upon arrival, police said that they observed numerous underaged kids allegedly drinking canned beer on the rear deck of the home. There were also several empty Bud Light cans strewn about the yard.
Responding officers estimated that there were approximately 30 underage drinkers inside and outside the home, with many fleeing the property when law enforcement arrived to break up the party.
According to police, during the investigation into the party, officers observed at least one 17-year-old in possession of a nine-pack of beer, with an open Bud Light in his hand that he dropped and kicked under a car as police approached. Officers detained several of the party-goers and evidence was confiscated.
Police said the homeowners weren’t home at the time of the party or the subsequent bust.
Public Safety Commissioner Michael Corcoran Jr. said that this bust was the latest in a continuing battle against underage drinking. He noted that police were alerted to the party through an anonymous tip that was submitted through the agency’s Tip Line.
The investigation into the case is ongoing, with charges currently pending.
“This is an ongoing investigation into who may have supplied the alcoholic beverages which will include interviews with multiple parties,” he said.
“Rye Police Department will continue to take a zero tolerance approach to underaged drinking and towards the hosting of these types of parties. These behaviors violate the law, pose significant danger to our young people and potentially expose homeowners to civil and criminal liability.”
