PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- A home in Peekskill was destroyed by a fire Monday, though no injuries were reported.

The home, at 140 Fremont Street, collapsed, according to Mayor Frank Catalina. Catalina said the house was fully engulfed upon arrival in the early evening.

The bulk of the fire had been contained by 8:45 p.m.

Firefighters are still on the scene, Catalina said.

"This is a tough blaze in difficult weather conditions," Catalina said. "Our volunteer firefighters and professional firefighters did a great job."

Peekskill firefighters are being assisted by emergency responders from Mohegan Lake, Croton, Buchanan and Montrose. More than 40 firefighters responded to the scene.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
