ARMONK, N.Y. – The North Castle Police Department got new toys this week: Two brand-new Ford Interceptors are now sitting in its parking lot. The state-of-the-art sedans are completely decked out with crime-catching devices.

Simply put, it’s bad news for the bad guys.

“We definitely expect these vehicles to enhance our productivity,” said North Castle Police Chief William Fisher. “When you give guys the tools to do the job, it makes a big difference.”

Built on a Ford Taurus platform, the Ford Interceptor is a type of model known as a “purpose built” vehicle. In other words, you can’t pick one of them up at a Ford dealership. They are specifically designed for, and are only sold to, police departments.

“It’s four-wheel drive and has video and audio capabilities far more advanced than any of our other cars,” said North Castle Police Lt. Peter Simonsen. “It is light years away from anything else we have in our lot.”

The two new police vehicles, which run about $70,000 each, are part of the Town of North Castle’s 2013 capital projects, which include more than $1 million of town improvements .
