Investigators from the New York State Police received a larceny complaint from Walmart on Main Street in Cortlandt on March 6, prompting an investigation, which led to the arrest of Bronx resident Richard Diaz over the weekend.

Police said that the investigation determined that Diaz allegedly opened a line of credit using a fake identification card, and assumed that identity to purchase three iPhone X cellphones, which have an approximated value of nearly $1,000. He was busted by police while attempting to obtain a fourth phone at the same Walmart on March 9 and subsequently arrested.

Diaz was charged with third-degree grand larceny, possession of a forged instrument and identity theft, all felonies. Following arraignment, Diaz was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $7,500 bond. He is down back in the Town of Cortlandt Court later this year to answer the charges against him.
