NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. - A truck driver received a stern warning from police in North Castle after nearly striking flaggers in the roadway conducting traffic control on Route 433 in Armonk.

New York State Department of Transportation Highway workers reported to the North Castle Police Department on Tuesday morning that a driver in a flatbed truck drove through the work zone as crews were paving blacktop on the roadway.

Police said that the workers reported that the driver was swerving through the work zone at the flaggers before pulling off the roadway a short way up the road. Officers responded to the scene and spoke to the driver before issuing him a warning.

Other items on the North Castle Police Department blotter from Friday, Aug. 18 through Thursday, Aug. 24 include:

  • On Tuesday, Aug. 23, police received reports of a black bear that had entered the roadway on High Street. Officers responded to the scene and found the bear in a small wooded area, though he needed to recross the road to re-enter the woods. Police reported that the bear eventually left the area and returned to the woods without any further incident.
  • An employee at Stop and Shop on North Broadway reported that a man left the store without paying for items on Friday, Aug. 18, fleeing in a gray Ford Focus sedan. The employee was unable to identify which way the suspect fled. The incident is under investigation.
